San Remo

One can still feel the aura of the upper class society of past times. Around the turn of the century in 1900, the European high society of the time used to romp about in this place.

The means of transport of the old times has had its day. On the first photograph you can see the sad remains of the closed down railway station, very well located, all close to the sea.

Renowned health resorts are always good candidates for chess tournaments. Any chess player has already heard about the famous tournament in San Remo in 1930. The convincing winner was Alexander Alyekhin (nationality: France), the world champion at the time. Beneath I listed the four best players indicating their date of birth and death. I think it is interesting to see that already at the time there seemed to exist a great longing for the West. Except for the Latvian, all the others were several-times champion of Russia, the man from Kiev by the way several-times champion of Germany.
