Antonio Gaudí
In the beginning of the 20th century the citizens of Barcelona must have been
quite astonished at the crazy buildings of the architects of modernism at
the outskirts of the city at that time. Today they are to be found in the
middle of the pulsating city centre in the Eixample area.
One of the most famous work is the Casa Milà at the Passeig de Gràcia 92.
Antonio Gaudí had constructed it from 1906 - 1910. As the people could only
see a terrific amount of stones in the beginning, Gaudí' s famous house got
the nickname of La Pedrera, the quarry.
From 1905 - 1907 the Casa Batlló at the Passeig de Gràcia 43
was built by Gaudí, too. It was already in 1898 that the house next door,
on its left, was built by Josep Puig I Cadafalch, the Casa Amatller.
And there is another really beautiful house on the corner, the Casa Lleó Morera,
built in 1905 by Lluís Domènech I Montaner.
